How to Add Fonts to CapCut (iPhone, Android and PC)
CapCut has plenty of fonts built in, but sometimes you want a specific look: your brand font, a trending handwritten style or a font your favorite creator uses. The good news is that CapCut lets you add your own font files. It takes about a minute once you know where to tap.
This guide walks you through the whole process: getting the font, unzipping it and importing it into CapCut on your phone or computer.
Before you start: what you need
- A font file ending in .ttf or .otf. These are the standard font formats CapCut accepts. Web font files (.woff or .woff2) and ZIP files won’t work.
- The latest version of CapCut. Font import has changed over time, so update the app first.
Step 1: Download a font
Find a font you like on Originalfonts. You can type your own words in the preview box to see how your text will look. When you’ve found one, open its page and tap Download free. You’ll get a ZIP file containing the font files and the license.

Step 2: Unzip the font file
On iPhone or iPad:
- Open the Files app and go to Downloads (or wherever your browser saves files).
- Tap the ZIP file once. A folder with the same name appears next to it.
- Open the folder. You should see files ending in .ttf or .otf.
On Android:
- Open your file manager (Files by Google, or My Files on Samsung phones).
- Go to Downloads and tap the ZIP file.
- Tap Extract. The font files are saved in a new folder.
On Windows: right-click the ZIP file and choose Extract All. On a Mac: double-click the ZIP file.
Step 3: Import the font into the CapCut app (phone)
- Open CapCut and start a new project, or open an existing one.
- Tap Text, then Add text, and type something.
- Open the Font tab below the text box.
- Look for the option to add your own font. Depending on your version, it may be a + or upload icon, or an Import / Upload button inside the font list.
- Choose Files (or browse your storage) and select the .ttf or .otf file you unzipped.
- The font appears in your font list. Tap it to apply it to your text.
CapCut moves its buttons around between versions, so if you can’t see an import option, update the app and look through the tabs at the top of the font list.
Step 4: Import the font into CapCut on a computer
- Open CapCut on your computer and open a project.
- Click Text in the top-left menu and add a text layer to your timeline.
- Select the text layer. The text settings open on the right.
- Open the Font drop-down menu.
- Choose the import or upload option and select your .ttf or .otf file.
- Wait a moment for it to load, then pick it from the list.
Tip: it’s also a good idea to install the font on your computer first. See How to install fonts on Windows or our install guide for Mac and other devices.
Font not showing up? Try these fixes
- You picked the ZIP file. CapCut can’t read ZIP files. Unzip it first and choose the .ttf or .otf file inside.
- Wrong file type. If you only have .woff or .woff2 files, those are web fonts. Download the desktop version (TTF or OTF), or see our font converter guide.
- Only one style appears. Some fonts come as a single “variable” file that contains many weights. CapCut may show only the default style. If you need Bold or Light, look for separate static files for those weights.
- Letters turn into boxes. The font doesn’t include those characters (for example Hindi or emoji). Choose a font that supports your language, such as our Hindi fonts.
- It worked on one device but not another. Imported fonts are stored on the device where you added them, so import the font again on your other phone or computer.
- Restart the app. If you just imported a font on your computer and it doesn’t appear, close CapCut completely and open it again.
Is it legal to use my own fonts in CapCut videos?
That depends on the font’s license, not on CapCut. Every font on Originalfonts shows a Can I use it? box. Fonts with the SIL Open Font License or the Apache License can be used in any video, including monetized and business videos. “Personal use only” fonts can’t be used for business content without buying a license.
